Leadership in the Age of Digital

A Talk by Gabrielle Patrick (Head of Ways of Working, Formally Deutsche Bank)

About this Talk

We are currently in the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Age of Digital – in previous eras where people did repetitive, relatively low skilled tasks, as per assembly line work, management structure was hierarchical and project management style was Taylorism. In today’s age, the digital age, the work is highly complex, fast paced and highly metricised. We’ve swapped Taylorism for Agile methods where decisions are pushed down rather than up.

Overloaded hierarchies now slow work down rather than ensure it gets done correctly. Increasingly, AI assistance means the right actions and decisions can be made more easily by anyone.

So where does that leave management? Never more than ever is it important that managers know how to be leaders. Thanks to Dan Pink’s work on Alignment, Autonomy and Mastery as well as David Marquette’s Leader/Leader work, we have models for what good leadership looks like in the Age of Digital.

This talk unpacks the unique context leaders find themselves within the Age of Digital and looks at how to ensure they make the best impact possible.
